Advertising does not guarantee sales.

A farmer never stops sowing just because some seeds died without germinating or some grew but never bring him fruits. Advertising is a continuous thing and is a number game. This is very important for small business. In my experience as a media entrepreneur, I've seen businesses running a one off advert of an unknown brand hoping to generate quick sale from it. It simply doesn't work that way. The same works for social media, the more you want to get out of it, the more you need to give it your time and creating content.
