imageDivas of colour by My Black Woman is an international platform to celebrate, reward, discover, empower, recognise the many talents and contributions of women of colour. A whole day of lavish celebration to honour 6 outstanding women of colour of all time for their role in upholding the dignity of the woman. They are Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Betty Makoni, Baroness Lawrence, Dr Maya Angelou and legendary Nigeria singer Onyeka Onwenu.
The highlight of the event being to empower women in their career. There will be a fashion show contest to win the title Diva Designer with a cash prize of £1000.00 and a model contest to win the title Diva Face . The winner goes home with a cash prize of £500.00 and a one year contract as the international brand ambassador for Manubiah greetings card the sponsors of this category . On divas of colour, there will also be a fundraiser and awareness campaign with My Black Woman’s chosen charity – glowing future against domestic violence. In solidarity with women of India , Congo and women around the world who have suffered any form of abuse or violence, women are asked to add a touch of purple to their outfits to signify power, strength and dignity for the woman.
Registration for exhibition stalls, model contest, and designer contest participants is now on and will close on the 31st of January 2014. Online voting for designers and models commences immediately. The first 20 models with the highest vote, will go for the live show to compete for the title. While designers online votes will add up to their final score in the bid to becoming the international Diva Designer of the year.
Kereen Cunningham the event coordinator says, “this is a huge platform for both upcoming and established brands, labels and models to tap into the global branding. This huge exposure is very necessary for career growth in this very competitive industry. It is a rare opportunity for every woman of colour, I would grab it with two hands.”
