Nollywood actress Amaka Igwe is dead at 51

We received the news this morning of the death of  one of Nigeria’s foremost Nollywood actresses Amaka Igwe  this morning.  Our source says, she passed away after a horrible asthmatic attack .  She was rushed to the hospital at Enugu where she was pronounced dead.

She’s said to have been asthmatic but never gave in or allowed it to come between her and the work she loved doing. Amaka is remembered as one of the pioneers of African, Nigeria movie industry revolutionists.  At 51 she still had so much to give, bubbling and optimistic with life. Unfortunately today, the news have just reached us in utter shock and the entire Nollywood is said to be devastated.

She is well remembered for her role in the hit tv series Checkmate, Fuji house of commotion and series of other movies written, directed and produced by her. She is an accomplished writer, actress and producer. Amaka has contributed immensely to the Nollywood industry for over 2 decades and the entire entertainment industry are going to miss a rare gem.

Left to mourn her are her 3 children and husband of 21 years marriage.

Please note: we have just confirmed from a close source, that she was born in 1963, so we e corrected her age to 51 as against 60 that we initially we’re told.  We will keep you updated on this.
