Starting off behind US Justin Gatlin who narrowly upstaged the Bolt, before the Jamaican picked up just few steps to the finish line to sweep off the title from expectant American Gatlin who also did very well to secure the Silver.
From lane 5, making history to be the first ever to hold on to the title for 3 consecutive times. 29 years old Usain Bolt who made history in Beijing and London said of his near loss today, “I expected to go faster, but I’m happy I won. I did what I had to do.”

The win takes the sprinter a step closer to his goal of defending his combination of gold in the 100m, 200m and the 4x100m relay from London 2012. American Justin Gatlin won silver in 9.89 and Canada’s Andre de Grasse bronze in 9.91.
