It is that time of year when we start to look towards the year ahead and it’s currently our wardrobes that are being given some consideration. We have put together 17 ways you can breathe new life into your wardrobe and stay ahead of the fashion game in 2017.

1.The New Trench

The trench coat is a wardrobe staple for many with its classic look that many use to elevate their outfit. 2017 sees it receive a fresh update thanks to draped fabrics, oversized buckles and a longer silhouette.

2. Fold over Waists

We will be watching out waistlines in a whole new way next year. Forget about wearing a belt and instead adopt the sharp fold over waistline, just make sure that your trousers are well tailored.

3. The White Dress

White dresses were popping up all over the catwalk for SS17 and are an easy staple to slot into your wardrobe. Pick a floaty mini or elegant maxi for a summer’s day. A white shirt dress over black trousers is a stylish way to introduce this trend to your work wear.

4. Cold Shoulder

Cold shoulder tops and dresses were everywhere this year and this looks set to run into next year. Rather than both shoulders being exposed the look has been replaced with just one strategically placed cut out for more impact.

5. Mellow Yellow

Embrace colour and in particular the happiest shade of them all. If you think you can’t wear yellow then think again as there is a shade to suit every skin tone.

6. The Stripes

Nautical style stripes will always be around for summer taking inspiration from the beach with parasols and deckchairs. Pair thick bold stripes with the more classic pinstripe, and even striped footwear.

7. Safari Khaki

Apparently khaki isn’t just for when you’re going on safari. Military style coats and dresses are a great way to bring structure into your wardrobe.

8. Floaty Flares

If you wait around long enough trends come back round again and this is definitely the case with flares. Bell bottoms and a pair of heels are perfect for lengthening your legs and creating a flattering silhouette.

9. Shimmering Sheers

Just when you thought there was finally some escape from the lace and crochet this year, along comes sheer. Incorporate the trend into your wardrobe by choosing pieces with floral embroidery and beading for a pretty, feminine style.

10. The Pantsuits

There is now a pantsuit for every occasion from work to parties and formal events. Consider trying a looser silhouette and fabrics like velvet.

11. Bralettes

Bralettes are essentially a cross between a bra and a crop top. They look great with high waisted trousers or peeping out from underneath suit separates. If you aren’t quite brave enough to flash some flesh then they can also be worn over the top of a simple white tee.

12. Kitten Heels

The advantage of the kitten heel is that it adds a slight arch to your foot and a tiny bit of height without giving you any of the pain that a stiletto inflicts. You can’t fail with a pair of classic black sling backs.

13. Micro Bag

Handbags have never been smaller, just big enough for your lipstick and loose change. Perfect for encouraging you to streamline your handbag, just wear it slung across your body.

14. Sleeves

Think about investing in a shirt or jumper with detailing to the sleeves. Go for anything with a cropped oversized sleeve, ruffles or flutes.

15. Eighties

It doesn’t all have to be about the oversized silhouette with heavily padded shoulders. Consider a sweetheart mini dress or just a hint of the trend with a vintage style brooch. Add a more masculine touch to your look with a cropped smoking jacket.

16. Uneven Hemlines

Next year choose skirts and dresses with uneven hemlines. Go for asymmetric or handkerchief hems with a layered length. Mix it up even more with both sheer and solid panels for extra movement.

17. Pretty in Pink

Forget about sugary shades, it’s all about packing a punch with fuchsia. Make a statement by colour blocking with a bold dress under a matching coat.
