Ayobami Adebayo made the shortlist for her novel, Stay with Me.

Her novel, Stay with Me is a fiction about the various challenges of motherhood in Nigeria. The novel was set in the 1980’s Nigeria.

The novel shows how Yejide, the protagonist experienced some childbearing challenges. It also talks about the problems and challenges of in-laws, as well as some of the drastic measures she was willing to take in order to have a child.

Bailey’s Women’s Prize for fiction is an annual award for fictional books written by women.

The prize was founded in 1996 to celebrate among other things, excellent and original writing by women across the world.

This interesting read, Stay with Me has been shortlisted for the prize.

The prize to be won is £30,000, and since the Award’s inception in 1996, Ayobami is the fourth African woman to be nominated for this award.

Not only that, out of all the people shortlisted for the 2017 prize, she is the only first-time novelist on the list.

At a longlist of 16 books, 6 books were shortlisted for the prize.

First Love by Gwendoline Riley

Do Not Say We Have Nothing by Madeleine Thien

 

The winner of the prize will be announced on June 7, 2017, at the London’s Royal Festival Hall.

Also, it should be recalled that Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie won the prize in 2007 for her second novel, Half of a Yellow Sun.
