Nigeria President BuhariaAccording to statement released yesterday by the spokesperson of the government, President Muhammadu Buhari will leave for London, United Kingdom today for a four day medical check-up.

The statement issued in Abuja last night by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu reads:

“In the course of the technical stop-over for aircraft maintenance in London on his way back from Washington last week, the President had a meeting with his doctor.

“The Doctor requested the President to return for a meeting which he agreed to do.

President Buhari will return on Saturday, May 12th.

“On his return, the President’s two-day State Visit to Jigawa, which was postponed because of the All Progressives Congress, APC’s Ward Congresses will now take place on Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th May.”

This comes amidst mounting pressure from critics of the government who recall President
Buhari’s promise to put to a stop all forms of medical tourism by state officials.
Since Muhammad Buhari came into office he has visited England on three occassions on a medical trips one of which he stayed for over 100 days. Which prompted a huge protests in London forcing the president to hurry off.
Critics noted that at the time when Medical doctors in the country are on strike and are not being listened to, the president has the guts to travel for hisnown care leaving the citizens with little or no medical care at home. Few months ago, the president’s was also rushed to Germany for medical treatment after a motorbike accident.
Mr Stanley Nwabia,@MrStanleyNwabia on twitter said,
“Buhari was aware of his health condition even b4 he became President. THREE YEARS as President and he’s been unable to atleast upgrade Aso rock clinic with equipments & personnel needed to manage his ailment?
Buhari is also a victim of his own incompetence.”

Another angry citizen with twitter handle , @ileiife tweeted

“Health workers are on strike. Teaching hospitals and FMCs are inaccessible to us. Yet, this President has been summoned to a working hospital by his doctor.”
