Mother launches app to enable parents track children’s nutrition.

Minimeal an app to help families win the fight over obesity and overweight issues.

Obesity has become one of the most worrying health phenomena in the UK and globally.

Families are rightly challenged with managing their food intake without depriving their children of the needed nutrients for their children’s health.

Most adults also spend excessively to keep fit and to combat their excessive weight.

However, a mother has launched an app – Minimeals to help parents monitor children’s food nutrient intake.

Mini Mealtimes aims to help take away some of the stress of trying to get the food intake right.

Obesity is usually defined as having a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above. BMI between 25 and 30 is classified as ‘overweight’.

The Health Survey for England 2016 estimates that 26.2% of adults in England are obese and a further 35.2% are overweight but not obese.

The study goes on to report, 9.6% of reception age children (age 4-5) are obese, with a further 13.0% overweight. At age 10-11 (year 6), 20.0% are obese and 14.3% overweight.

Recently, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan launched a campaign to combat child obesity in England, banning Junk food ads in all London tube stations. The seriousness of and the urgent need to curb London’s “ticking time bomb” of child obesity was brought to the fore by the Mayor.
The capital has one of the highest child overweight and obesity rates in Europe, with almost 40 per cent of 10-11-year-olds deemed an unhealthy weight, he said.

Mr Khan said: “Child obesity is putting the lives of young Londoners at risk and placing huge pressure on our already strained health service.

“It is absolutely imperative that we take tough action against this ticking time bomb now, and reducing exposure to junk food advertising has a role to play in this – not just for children, but parents, families and carers who buy food and prepare meals.”

No doubt therefore, that an app like Minimeals will be of great assistance to families in keeping health. There couldn’t have been a better time for such a handy app for famies.

The Minimeals App stops parents from freaking out about sugar and salt but being more concerned with moderation and their child’s overall wellbeing.

The app will remind parents their child may need more or less and that recommendations are not one-size fits all.

Minimeals App

Founder Marie Farmer, who previously worked for the advertising agency Cheil Worldwide, created the app after being inspired during her maternity leave, said; “The app will allow parents to monitor their children’s food intake, break down the nutritional information in an easy to understand way. Plus give personalised food suggestions based on the child’s diet and research from a team of dieticians, Including Paula Hallam the founder of Tiny Tots Nutrition and registered dietician and British Dietician Association member. This is the first app to do all of this in one place.”

The Mini Mealtimes app (A family nutrition tracker app for parents) is now available to download on both app stores, here.

The app has been beta tested for several months by dedicated parents across the country and they’ve given it their seal of approval.
