Nadal ends the season as world number one despite not making it out the group stage of the ATP Finals. The Spaniard is the oldest player to finish the season as top on the standings since the current ATP rankings were established in 1973.

Novak Djokovic pushed Nadal to the very end for the title but his early exit from the season-ending championships after two loses from his three matches was nothing but a win for Rafael Nadal as he finishes the year top.

Nitto ATP Finals champion and runner-up, Tsitsipas and Thiem, finish the year as 6th and 4th respecting on the latest ATP rankings.
