Tyson Fury just defeated Deontay Wilder through the Seventh-Round Technical Knockout in one of the most anticipated bout rematch in history at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. This win by Fury means he is the first boxer in history to claim every major world title in heavyweight division: WBA, WBC, WBO, IBO, IBF, Ring and Lineal. The Gypsy King (30-0-1, 21 KOs) just landed Wilder his first-ever career defeat (42-1-1, 41 KOs).
The legendary knockout artist (Wilder) over-dependency on his powerful right hand left him down today against a very technical Tyson Fury.
Tyson Fury on his victory today: “A big shout out to Deontay Wilder. He came here tonight and he manned up and he really did show the heart of a champion. I hit him with a clean right that dropped him and he got back up. He is a warrior. He will be back. He will be champion again.”
Wilder, on the other hand, had nothing but praise for his opponent and also said he will be back stronger: I’m doing good. Things like this happen. The best man won tonight, but my corner threw in the towel and I was ready to go out on my shield. I had a lot of things going on heading into this fight. It is what it is, but I make no excuses tonight. I just wish my corner would let me go out on my shield. I’m a warrior. He had a great performance and we will be back stronger.
“Even the greatest have lost and came back, that is just part of it. You just take it for what it is. I can make no excuses tonight. I had a lot of complications. But we’ll come back stronger next time around. This is what big-time boxing is all about, the best must fight the best. Highlights of the Rounds
Round 1: The bout began, Wilder was everywhere – he threw a pair of left jabs. Deontay didn’t stop there, he attacked Fury’s body. The 34 years old (Wilder) also tried a combination on Tyson Fury but missed targets. A lot of people would agree the former American WBC champion had more today than he did in their previous match.
Fury had his turns, tried a couple of combinations, he won the opening round.
Round 2: An aggressive Fury threw some nice jabs and Wilder on the other side connected with a right hand. This round was difficult to separate – the two boxers had their shares of good performance.
Round 3: Fury knocked Wilder down. The new WBC champion also damaged Wilder’s bottom lip. No one could say they missed those fascinating right hands from Fury in this round.
Round 4: A clear one-sided round for Fury, Wilder couldn’t contain every bit of what Fury threw at him in this round. This resulted in a bleeding left ear for him (Wilder). The Gypsy king continued his fine form!
Round 5: Again!!! Fury knocked Wilder down, Wilder is in big trouble. What a match Fury is having! Tyson Fury had a point deducted from him because he hit Wilder on the break.
Round 6: Another dominated round by Fury.
Round 7: Wilder was bleeding again, his corner threw in the towel – the bout was stopped. Game over! Congratulations! Tyson Fury, the new WBC heavyweight champion of the world.
