Despite his needing crutches to support an ongoing injury, the unified world heavyweight champion assembled with the Watford community today at a Black Lives Matter Protest. The British boxer paraded around every street in the city of his birth, Watford, before addressing the crowd at a park.

He read out a poem that expresses racism as a virus that needs to be kicked out of human’s societies: “We stand united against a virus which has been instrumental in taking lives, taking lives of the young, old, rich, poor; a virus which is unapologetic and spreads across all sectors. The virus has been declared a pandemic. This is out of control. And I’m not talking about Covid-19. The virus I’m talking about is called racism.”

Anthony Joshua said in a speech through his official Instagram following the unlawful killing of American George Floyd: “We can no longer sit back and remain silent on these senseless, unlawful killings and sly racism on another human being – based on what? Only their skin colour. We need to speak out in peaceful demonstrations – just like today, so well done Watford. We must not use a demonstration for selfish motives and turn it into rioting and looting.”

Reports from many reliable sources stated that this particular BLM (Black Lives Matter) protest is just one of many related protests that happened in the UK today.

Anthony Joshua

The 30-years-old brit initially had the intention of fighting in two bouts this year but due to coronavirus pandemic the whole globe is experiencing right now, Anthony Joshua will only enter the ring just once before the year runs out. This particular boxing match is a mandatory world title defence against Kubrat Pulev of Bulgaria.

The injury that made Anthony Joshua walk with support today should have healed before the due date for the bout between the heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua and Pulev, according to the people close to him (Joshua).

The venue for the boxing match is another thing that is yet to be decided because authorities in charge of the bout are still looking for a place that won’t involve a large number of fans coming to see it (due to the current world health issue).
