Sky’s Kay Burley, 3 Colleagues Taken Off Air For Floating Covid19 Rules on Her 60th Birthday.

• Kay Burley admits breaking the tier 2 Covid19 rules.
• She has taken to Twitter to explain what happened and has apologised.
• Sky News is disappointed that their staff broke the rules and has set up an internal investigation.
• Kay Burley and all three colleagues have been taken off air while the investigation is carried out.

Kay Burley and three of her Sky News colleagues who attended her 60th birthday party, which were in breach of Covid restrictions, have been taken off air, as investigations are carried out into the covid breach. 

Kay Burley who has been the face of Sky News for over 3 decades has her job in the balance along with colleagues – Political editor Beth Rigby, correspondent Inzamam Rashid and presenter Sam Washington who are also off air while the inquiry takes place.

Earlier this week, Kay reportedly  will not be returning to Sky News until 2021 after breaking tier two rules in London. 

The broadcaster later admitted  she “broke the rules” in a post she shared over twitter apologising for her ‘error of judgement’. Stating however, she celebrated her birthday ‘at a Covid compliant restaurant’, before she later “inadvertently broke the rules”. 

Kay on her birthday reportedly celebrated her birthday at Century Club in Soho in a group of 10, sitting at two separate tables. However, it is said, they later went to another restaurant nearby, with four members of the group also following Kay to home afterwards to continue the celebrations. 

In her statement of apology shared over Twitter,  Kay tweeted: “I want to apologise to you all for an error of judgment.”

A spokesperson for Sky News said; “We place the highest importance on complying with the government guidelines on Covid, and we expect all our people to comply. We were disappointed to learn that a small number of Sky News staff may have engaged in activity that breached the guidelines.”

An internal inquiry has been set  to determine whether Kay’s birthday celebrations were ‘Covid compliant’.
