Naomi Osaka Beats Jennifer Brady at the Australian Open to Claim Her Fourth Grand Slam Title in 4years

With her emphatic 6-3 6-4 win over Jennifer Brady, Naomi Osaka is the first player since the Open Era in Women Tennis to win multiple Australian Open titles following her 2years ago success in Melbourne. The fourth-time Grand Slam champion is now becoming a dominant force in women’s tennis after winning two Grand Slam titles at the US Open and Australian Open respectively.

Osaka is now the first female tennis player to win her four Grand Slam finals since Monica Seles in 1993: She has now maintained a 100% winning record in major finals. Her victory today means she has never lost any of her last 21 matches since February last year.

Naomi Osaka is happy with Brady’s growth over the years after their first meeting at the US Open: “Firstly, I want to congratulate Jennifer. We played in the semi-finals of the US Open and I told everyone that would listen that you’re going to be a problem, and I was right. To see your growth over the past few months is really cool.”

She continued the interview with so much praise for her team: “I’d like to thank my team. I’ve been with them too long, a month and some change. They’re like my family. They’re the ones with me through my training, through my matches, through my nervous talks before my matches, and I’m really appreciative towards them. This one’s for you.”

She added: “Lastly but not least, I want to thank you guys (the fans). Thank you for coming and watching. It feels really incredible. I didn’t play my last Grand Slam with fans so just to have this energy, it really means a lot.

“Thank you for opening your hearts and your arms towards us. For sure I feel like playing a Grand Slam right now is a super privilege and it’s something I won’t take for granted.”

Naomi Osaka’s Triumph to Her Fourth Major Title Win

Osaka began her 2021 Australian Open campaign on the 10th of February with a 6-2 6-3 win over Garcia. She progressed the tournament in fine form defeating Jabuer 6-3 6-2 in the third round but had a difficult encounter against G. Muguruza in the fourth round winning the tie in an additional set 4-6 6-4 7-5.

Naomi Osaka defeated Hsieh and Serena Williams 6-2 6-2 and 6-3 6-4 in the quarter-finals and semifinals respectively. Brady had Osaka on her toes in a neck-to-neck battle in the first set of the Australian Open final but the latest Grand Slam champion did enough to get through the set 6-4. One would have thought to see a replicate of the explosive first set fight in the second set but Osaka proved to be too strong and unplayable to claim the set 6-3 as Brady left it too late.
