Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has rejoined Kano Pillars after playing for the team in 2009-10 campaign, despite receiving offers from England, Russia and Turkey. Musa put pen to paper with the giant Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Kano Pillars, until the end of the 2020/21 football season.
The 28-year-old forward became a free agent in October after leaving Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr before signing for his former club Kano Pillar. In an agreement the former CSKA and Leicester City player had with Kano Pillars, there is a clause that allows him to leave the club when and if he sees a new club in Europe.
Ahmed Musa won the NPFL golden boot (with 18 goals) in the 2009/2010 season during his first spell at Kano Pillars before deciding to join VVV Venlo in the Eredivisie (Netherlands).
Before Musa’s official unveiling was done, Surajo Jambul (Kano Pillars chairman) disclosed that the club had an agreement to close the deal after several consultations with the player and the League Management Company of Nigeria.
He also concluded that the club received a signed letter from the Chief Operating Officer of the League Management Company of Nigeria, Salihu Abubakar, that Kano Pillars was to sign Ahmed Musa as an Elite player of the league to the end of the season.
Musa Revealed the Reason He Rejoined Kano Pillars
After reaching an agreement to rejoin his former club, Musa disclosed the reason why he decided to come back and play for Kano Pillars once more.
Musa said he returned to Kano Pillars to boost the image of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and also to maintain good fitness health while searching for a club in Europe.
Speaking to BBC Sports Africa on his move, Musa said: “Anything that improves the image of Nigerian football is something that I strive to embark on and Kano Pillars holds a special place in my heart.
“It’s the team that helped me become the professional footballer I am today, so this is more than just football but a very strong bond.”
