On her Instagram page, the Oscar award winning actress Lupita Nyong’o made cleared the air confirming her acquiring the license to produce the feature adaptation of the highly acclaimed novel – ‘Americanah’ by Nigerian renowned author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The novel Americanah which won the 2013 National book critics circle award is an epic story of two young immigrant Nigerians on their journey across the continents.
Chimamanda has been praised and distinguished for her many highly acclaimed novels including – Half of a yellow sun which recently was aadapted into a move and stars Chiwetel Ejiofor. who also starred in the Oscar award winning movie 12 years a slave alongside Lupita Nyong’o. Ngozi Adichie, also is the MacArthur Fellowship prize winner with her two novels – Purple Hibiscus, Half of a yellow Sun.
Lupita who is overly excited about the move says, “It is such an honour to have the opportunity to bring Ms. Adichie’s brilliant book to screen. Page after page, I was struck Ifemelu and Obinze’s (The two Nigerian Immigrants)stories, whose experiences are African immigrants are so specific and also so imminently relatable . It is a thrilling challenge to tell a truly international story so full of love, humor and heart.”
The film production is said to be with the D2 Productions, Plan B and Portboiler productions. It is not yet known when the film will be released or on what budget. Our eyes are open .
