Portuguese superstar Ronaldo is set to miss Portugal’s UEFA League game against Sweden on Wednesday after being confirmed to have tested positive for coronavirus a few moments ago.

The Portuguese Football Federation (PFF) confirmed in an official statement that the Juventus forward is doing well, without symptoms, and in isolation: “The Portugal international is doing well, without symptoms, and in isolation. Following the positive test, the remaining players underwent new tests on Tuesday morning, and all produced a negative result and are available to Fernando Santos for training this afternoon. The game (against Sweden), counting for the qualification phase of the Nations League, is scheduled for Wednesday, at 19:45, in Alvalade.”

Christiano Ronaldo was part of the Portuguese side that faced Spain in a friendly match in Lisbon and was also fully involved in their 0 – 0 draw with France in one of the UEFA League Group 3 match during this international break.

The goalless draw that resulted from the match between Portugal and France this week Sunday ensured that both nations are tied on the same number of points in Group 3 of the UEFA Nations League but Portugal is topping the Group on goal difference.

The last time Portugal faced Sweden in September; Ronaldo was the major difference between the two sides as he scored twice in their 2 – 0 win over Sweden as he became the first European player to reach 100 international goals.

In the absence of the 35 years old forward (Ronaldo) tomorrow, Sweden will be looking to see if they can come out of something against Portugal in the return fixture as they are yet to pick up a single point from their first three matches in the Nations League – Sweden sits bottom of Group 3.

Ronaldo will begin a compulsory ten-day period of self-isolation after his positive test for coronavirus as it is stated in Italy’s new quarantine rules. In the space of the next 10 days, Juventus will be without their star-man against Crotone in Serie A this weekend, as well as their Champions League group stage opener against Dynamo Kiev on the 20th of this month.
