The real test of journey came two days after their ship – Amistad ran into raging storm. Cinque and others were chained below while regular crew fought to keep the ship sailing. Midnight while the crew were asleep, Cinque and other slaves escaped by whacking off the iron chain using machete and knives they found inside the ship to free themselves.

President Obama arrives Kenya, hugs half sister.

Obama met most of his Kenyan family for the first time on that initial trip to his father’s home country. As he stepped off Air Force One Friday, he was greeted by half-sister Auma Obama, pulling her into a warm embrace. The siblings then joined about three dozen family members at a restaurant at the president’s hotel for a private dinner.
