This Argentina’s Copa America triumph means a lot to Barcelona star Lionel Messi who this is the first time ever he’s lifting a major senior international trophy in a blue-and-white shirt after making his debut for Argentina 16years ago. The tournament’s golden glove winner Emiliano Martinez was excited to have won the trophy with the superstar colleague: “I'm speechless. I knew my dream would come true, and where better than the Maracanazo and giving the title to the best in the world and fulfilling his dream.”

Pep Guardiola defends his team selection despite the critics he got from football fans: “I did what is the best for the game. Exceptional season for us. It is an honour to be here. Today we are sad but when we analyse it was a successful season for us. It was a tough game. In the second half we were brilliant, we were brave but we could not convert the goals because they were so strong, so fast. We didn't allow them to make the process to play, the players were exceptional, all of them, and we will come back again, maybe, one day.”

Coco Gauff has now become the fifth teenager to win a singles title on the WTA tour this campaign. Not quite long after cruising past Chinese Wang Qiang in the singles final, she immediately partnered with fellow American Caty McNally to claim the double crown too. Both have been sensational playing together - this is their third tour-level doubles title together since their partnership began.

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes admitted that she failed to come to the party in the first half: "Today is difficult to take because the game ended before it even started.
